Brandt´s bat (Myotis brandtii)

Being a small bat of only 5 to 7 grams, Brandt‘s bat is highly mobile. When considering the needs of this bat, the importance of links between forests and the surrounding landscape becomes clear. Females of a tree-dwelling nursery colony regularly flew up to 11 km along hedges and ditches to their foraging areas.

As in the case of Natterer‘s bat, the seasonal use of the forest as a hunting ground is striking. Crevice-like tree holes and cracks in tree trunks are the most important natural roosts. In winter Brandt‘s bats are mainly found in underground shelters.
